EV Steps Lost

Good Morning; This is very strange (and I'm sure all my fault) but I keep losing the EV step capability on my D300S. I set up a function button for +1/2 so I can take 3 shots for HDR, but when I open the pics in my EasyHDR software it says there is no EV range?. Any thoughts please!

I think that while you press on the button you've dedicated to HDR, you have to turn the main thumb wheel to let the camera how many shots you want with the exposure variation. The front wheel is for the exposure difference between each of them. You also have to remember to turn the number of shots back to zero afterwards otherwise you end up with all kind of exposure problem that will leave you perplexed until you realize your error. Don't even think of asking me how I know.
