Check out the HP laptops.. Hard to go wrong with them. Go to your local BESTBUY and check the out there. $800 won't get you high end but they an do pretty good.

For what you seek, get the best display that you can. If Apple were an option, which I doubt due to price, I'd say make sure you get one with a Retina display. When I change over from my 13-inch MacBook, which doesn't have a high resolution display, to my iMac 27-inch 5K display, the difference in the images is stunning.
If I were looking, I'd want to view my photos on the computers I was looking to purchase. You can do this by either loading some of them on a USB drive, or a memory card, and asking the store representatives if you can use your files to make an informed choice, or load some of your photos to a website, at the highest resolution, and then using the internet browsers on the computers to access the photos online for viewing.
