Every year my city has the Johnny Appleseed Festival..... and it is a big, well liked event. Whether John Chapman ("Johnny Appleseed") died in Ft. Wayne or not is up for debate....but his "grave site" is here LOL! This festival has over 200 vendors from as many as 40+ states who dress, sell, craft, bake, and entertain in period correct fashion. People turn out in groves, looking for "pioneer" items and trinkets to purchase...........and food to eat!!!!! Apple cider, fritters, dumplings.........anything apple is available. And there is no shortage of open fire Bar-B-Q food either! This event began in 1975 and takes place along the St. Joseph River bank. It is a 2 day event that attracts anywhere from 250,000 to 300,000 people.
