Camp Gap Ranch is a little wayside on the highway (20) between Bend and Burns as you head toward the Idaho line and the Snake River. It's a remnant of the Civilian Conservation Corps, as noted in the above links. Hardly anyone ever visits, which is a shame. The buildings exteriors are still in decent shape, although the insides have long since been gutted. Hard to imagine today what life must have been like back in the aftermath of the Great Depression, heading toward WWII.

Thanks for noticing, Ron. This is a neat little spot in the middle of nowhere, visited by almost no one. I used to drive by it quite a bit and never, ever saw a soul stop to take a look, which is too bad. It's an interesting little slice of Americana from not all that long ago. I highly recommend a stop if you are out and about in that part of Oregon.

You are most welcome, Woody. If you are ever out this way, be sure to swing on by. The place is downright fascinating, especially considering the fact that it's located out in the literal middle of nowhere.
