Remind me again (Old Man Brain kicking in). What is the benefit of shooting 1.3 crop? File size and buffer not filling up as fast?

yes and i like the 1.3x frame in the view finder. It helps me place the subject better.

That's a good reason. You'll always crop that much anyway on longer stuff.

I tried it a couple of times but I still prefer cropping in post instead since I more control over it in LR or PS

Nice shots, but the 1.3 crop mode had nothing to do wit it. It really only helps if you need more frames/second and a little better buffer .
