i am posting this for a friend, he has just bought this lens to go with his camera, says nothing is working, i am thinking there is no motor in the camera to work this, is that a true fact? i did search d3200 compatible lenses and it didnt come up as a match.

Or is there some other issue here?

Appreciate any help on this.

Thanks.

The D3200 doesn't have a focus motor, so it will only autofocus with lenses that have their own focus motors. Those are lenses that Nikon designates as “AF-S” or “AF-I”.

If the lens in question is not an “AF-S” or “AF-I” lens, then it will not autofocus on a D3200; but being a “D” lens, it must be a CPU lens, so it should otherwise be fully compatible.

You would have to set it to the smallest f stop, and focus it manually! I use manual mode all the time, so I am unsure if it would work on other modes or not my friend.

I used some older lenses on my D3100 when I had it, so it should work but without auto focus.
