Rainbow Beach

So, I was invited to go up to Rainbow Beach (Qld, Australia) for 3 days of photography with some friends. We had super cheap accomodation in a very nice house close to the beach. The 4 of us drove up in 2 cars, meeting the 5th photog there. It's about 4hrs from home.

First stop was out onto the beach for a look about and see if we could find any nice blue bottles to photograph (these things sting, even when dead). That evening we went out to Bullock Point where the Fraser Island ferries dock overnight and when not in use. We had hoped for a nice sunset, and we got an OK one, but it was over so quickly. I don't get to see many sunsets at home here. While out I discovered I had left my camera in jpeg mode after photographing some pre-loved jewellery for sale a few days before, so most of my shots here were jpg's. Damn!!

Anyway.....home around 8pm, dinner, showers and early to bed for a sunrise shoot in the morning.

On Day 2 we were up at 3.15am to hopefully get a sunrise from the sandblow. It was nice being out in the dark but I don't "do" mornings at the best of times :). Anyway

During the day we did some birding (not all that successfully I might add) and spent some time on the beach at Inskip Point where the ferries load up the go across to Fraser Island. We hoped for a nice sunset but that didn't happen due to a late storm and some heavy clouds. We did get some distant lightning though.

Yeah, I know, but I post an awful lot of images to Facebook so keep them small for there seeing as they compress the crap out of then anyway. It just takes up too much of my day to do different sets for different uploading, and our internet speeds over here are straight out of the ice age to be uploading large files :D

Day 3 saw us up at 3.15am again for another sunrise that didn't eventuate (well, the sun came up but you know what I mean), so it was a case of enjoy the early part of the day on the beach with all the other insomniacs.

I had once again managed to change my file setting to jpg only in the dark. Must work out what it is I am doing there

We also got the local tour guide to drop us off at Double Island point so we could walk back along the beach a bit and take some shots, and late afternoon walked out to one of the local lakes

Day 4 we were up at 2.45am (why am I doing this to myself? ) to go out to Tin Can Bay for sunrise. Again it didn't happen as the sky was pretty well clouded over. After this we packed up and left to make our way home. I'm still recovering from the early starts ;)
