Help with fstop...

I am planning a shoot on a small island not far from my home. It has amazing beaches and desert vegetation. I plan to hike high up for the beach shots with some foreground interest, cactus probably.

My question is if I shoot in A mode in bright light, can you give me an idea of the best fstop for the widest field of view possible?

Thanks in advance.

F-stops have nothing to do with the field of view. That's a function of the sensor size and focal length of the lens.

If you mean depth of field, then the larger the number, the more DOF.

As sparky said the higher the Aperture (F18 or F22) the more depth of field you will get BUT there is a limit to what you can shoot depending on the light. The higher the Aperture "F-stop" the smaller the opening that let light in. When you do that you have to shoot at a slower shutter speed to allow more light in. The lower the shutter speed the more you have to worry about movement when you are shooting.
