IMHO - very humble as I'm no expert at this sort of thing - but something I read that I came to appreciate is to pay attention to the shadows. Often ignored.
When it suits it (and it is not always the case, and in some cases just not good at all) but when it works, it works. Try and get the whole shadow of the thing in the photo and don't crop it as is the case in the sample photo above. Try it with the whole shadow, and then with part cut off - see what appeals to you. This is ART - your art. You do what looks good in your own eyes.
Just something to consider.
