Im finding that when im copying files over from card to pc, Im getting the same file names/no.s as tho the camera is resetting them ( altho i have just swapped out cards for a bigger one) but it has done it previously with the old card and after id moved all pics to pc emptying the card.
Whats the best setting to stop this?

On your D3200, press the menu button, then press left on the left rocker button(on the outside of the ok button) and high light the spanner icon,

Then press right on the rocker button, then scroll down until you see file number sequence, and turn it on.

What software are you using for transferring data? If you use the OS for copying it will not change the file names.

As far as the camera is concerned, once you set the file sequence numbers "ON", the camera will name the each file as "DSC_xxxx", where xxxx starts at 1, when you reset the sequence, and goes to 9999. After that it starts again from 1, unless some software is "resetting" the sequence every time you download the data.

drag and drop from windows or if i want to clear the card cut and paste.. via a card reader
That should not reset the sequence. Once you have set the sequence "on", you can check.

By the way, never use the OS to clear the card. Always copy data, and then use the camera to "Format" the card. That ensures that the data is gone and the file structure on the card is perfect. Using computer to delete files may create problems at times.
