The 18-55mm wouldnt really benefit me now thinking about it.

I have 35mm, 50mm and 18-105mm.
Have just found this Nikon D7100 DSLR With 18-105mm + 70-300mm lens+3 Years Warranty, Multi Languages | eBay

Maybe i can sell the 5100 body and use the 18-105 plus other lenses on the 7100 if that would work? I have read some where that on the 70-300 the auto focus wouldnt work on the 5100 so am worried about using my lenses on the 7100 with it being newer

I have the money now just seeing what opitions there are before i buy because i am impatient when i want something.

The 70-300 definitely works on the D5100 and is perfect on the D7100.
I know because I have just upgraded and have used both bodies with that lens.

Ah that is good news heard about auto focus wouldnt work with it on the 5100 body. Seeing as i would be getting rid of my 5100 doesnt matter to much but interested on why it works on some and not others

The 7100 can use AF and AF-S lenses with no auto-focus issues, as it has a built in focus motor for the AF. The 5100 can use AF-S lenses with no auto-focus issues, but not the AF. Most of the 70-300's I've seen out there are the AF-S, so should work on either. I know it used to work on my D3100 before I upgraded... :)

Ah many thanks that makes it so much clearer now. So aslong as its AF-S it will work on the 5100. Only reason for the upgrade as i wanted this lens plus i feel that i have out grown my 5100. Always time to upgrade the body but shall just try the lens for now and see how that goes

The 18-105 is a great little lens. I have one now but it is sitting on the shelf since my wife wanted a 18-200 for her D7000 and I already had the 18-140 for my D7100. You are set with lenses for a while so you can get the body only and use the lenses you have. The link I sent for refurbished D7100 is a great company. I have bought refurbished lenses and bodies from them before and have always been satisfied.

It sure is. I use it 80% of the time great general lens. But doesnt have the reach i need for wildlife which is why i am considering the 70-300mm. I was mainly going to upgrade the body as i read that the lens wouldnt autofocus, so was an easy option. But now i have a better understanding from this forum it will work providing i get the AS-S version. Which will be perfect as once i get use to it i can save for the 7100 or may push for he 7200 if i decide later on
