HR-45 lens shade on 18-55 1:3.5-5.6 G VRII lens?

Hello,

i searched to find the correct lens shade for my 18-55 and was lead to believe that the HR-45 would fit. However, I can't figure out how to attach it. It has squeeze tabs on the sides but I have tried pressing those in and pressing the shade on, turning the shade, etc. Am I doing something wrong or is this just not the correct shade for this lens?

If you have the latest generation 18-55mm with the zoom lock button on the barrel, you need an HB-69 hood. Confirm this here:

The HB-45 is for use on the first gen VR lens. It has to have the shallow hood because the barrel rotates as it zooms and focuses.

Thanks. I do have the new style lens. I bought the shade via Amazon but the seller is a local store. They said I can bring it in and exchange it.
