Beautiful rare bird

I'm almost exclusively a wildlife shooter but wanted a decent portrait of our 7 yr. old grand-daughter that lives with us. Not having a clue how to go about something I want to do has never stopped me before so I just pretended she was a beautiful rare bird (which is just about right in this old man's opinion) and got busy shooting this afternoon. I took this outside using natural light. I like the results well enough but have no doubt that there's a lot of room for improvement, so please let me know what's wrong (and/or right) with it and what I can do to make my next attempt better. Thanks!

Great shot

Bringing her forward away from the background might improve it by creating bokeh and a plain rather than the obvious planking might look better too.

The photo itself is cool although obviously posed - real birds don't pose! :)

Thanks Lawrence, great idea, I'll try that next time. Appreciate your thoughts.

Heh, yes, it's posed. I already have a zillion shots of her running wild, just wanted one of her standing still for a change, Doesn't happen often. ( :
