I went to trade out my CF cards this morning and now neither card works. I get CHA error messages with both. I tried to format each card in camera and still get the same error message.
I take it you've turned the camera off and turned it back on, removed the batteries and put them back in, inserted the CF card very slowly etc. Have a look at the pin assembly in the camera that the CF card slots into, check that there's no damage, bent or missing pins
umm, if your camera is suddenly not accepting different CF cards, it does sound more like a camera fault. If all your pin assembly is good, and there's no bent, broken, or even dirty pins, i'm at a bit of a loss now tbh
I haven't had anything like that happen to me, thank god! Did you take it out while the green light was on, meaning the camera was still read/writing?
You could try a reset and hopefully that will bring it back to normal. But I honestly don't know how you'd fix that issue. Sorry.

Oct 9, 2011 - 14 posts - 8 authors D700 having Cha error with all cd cards No manual with me Any suggestions as I am in and out Of all communications. Computer crashed.
I do not have a card reader so all dumps are done in camera.
The only thing I did differently is I now have a LR and used it instead of iPhoto. In iPhoto it asks if I want to delete pictures I say yes. With LR it did not prompt me, so I just kept shooting. Took out that card, put in the other (both Lexar Pro 133x 4GB) in and error message. Put the previous card in, error message.
You say you don't have a card reader. May I suggest you get one and try downloading your pictures that way. I never use my camera to download pictures....always use a card reader. Faster and simpler. My computer has a built in one, plus I have a portable one. Never had a failure yet.
I always use a card reader to transfer my pictures to the computer. And I don't just drag them. I copy and then paste. After checking if all the pics are there and OK, I put the card back in the camera and immediately format. I think this is the best way to care for a CF card.
Took it to my local repair place and they said it was a broken/ bent pin. He said $320 to fix...I said ok and left it. Started looking online for other repair places and found one for $179. So I went back and picked it up and I guess I will have to send it off now.
