Focal Length Math Problem

Hi guys
I hope there is a math minded reader on this site. I have a problem trying to figure how Nikon arrives at this focal length on my wifes P-600. 4.3-258mm(angle of view equivalent to that of 24-1440mm lens) in 35mm format. I have thought the factor was 1.5. Have I missed the boat?

Boat has sailed, Harle. The P600 sensor has a crop factor of ~5.6, not 1.5. It's significantly smaller than its DSLR counterparts - even the cropped sensors. Measured on the diagonal it's only 7.7mm!! That's a small sensor.

The P600 has a much smaller sensor than that of a DX camera.

Wow, a 60x zoom. Just to think that I have to carry about six pounds of lenses to get a 11x total zoom...
