how to find if a used lens is covered under US warranty?

I was trying to buy a 24-70 Nikkor AF-2 2.8. I am trying to see if I can get a lens which is covered under US warranty. How do I figure if a lens is covered under US? Appreciate your help.

If the serial number starts with US, it's covered. If the original warranty paperwork is included, it will tell you. If not, only NikonUSA can really tell for sure.

Might be wrong, but I'm thinking most warranties do not transfer, but are only good for the original purchaser.

Right, for any Nikon warranty work, you have to provide a copy of sales receipt showing original owner.

Of course, there is a second issue. If you want to pay for out-of-warranty repair, its serial number needs be one actually sold by Nikon USA. They won't touch non-USA imports. Nikon surely could advise about that.

Here's a link to the Nikon USA warranty... Doesn't make any difference what the warranty is to the secondary market.... The First limitation extends to the original purchaser, and is NOT transferable...

If you're the original purchaser and register the warranty, you're golden, otherwise, you're SOL...
