Hi All,

A quick intro, I got into DSLR's as I wanted to capture my son growing up. Started off with a used D3000 a couple of years ago, I had no photography experience apart from point and shoot prior to that. More recently got myself a D5200 because of the video capability.

I've forced myself to take 99% of my shots in manual which has worked well for me as I'm learning along the way. I invested in a prime lens and can say this was the best purchase to date, it's only a Nikon AF-S 35mm f1.8 G DX Lens but I'm really impressed with the quality.

Anyway I'm hoping to learn from the experienced people on here so that I can improve my photography skills. I don't have photo editing software and any slight edits are done in MS Office Picture Manager

Here are a few of my favorite shots, let me know what you guys think as I'm still a noob to all this....

I'm also into cars which tend to be a lot easier to snap lol....

Welcome and nice shots! Check out the free software from Nikon, it would be great as a starter and can help with lots of adjustments including shooting RAW.

Welcome to the Nikonites group.

Lots to learn and share here - very active group.

I have that same lens - and it has to be the best bang for the buck lens for a Nikon out there. Use mine on a D5100 and it is great. Love it's low light capabilities, get the beautiful baby smiles without waking the baby with a bright flash - and capture all the warm ambient light. Enjoy it.

Welcome to Nikonites! Great looking shots, especially for not having much for post processing! I think you picked an awesome forum, with a ton of excellent photographers to help you get the most out of your Nikon! I hope you'll love Nikonites my home away from home! Lol :D

Took this pic yesterday of my niece, quite happy with how it came out. Straight JPEG from the camera with no editing....

Eventually I want to start shooting in RAW, but the way I see it is if I can hone my skills in taking a half decent pic in the first place to reduce editing time, also I find this forces me to try and take a good shot rather than rely on post editing.

Very nice pic she is beautiful and you have captured the moment.
You are absolutely right about getting the best you can in the first place, post processing of a RAW file can't change the real essence of the photo keep developing your skills.
