Its one of those catch 22 moments, should I take a picture or eat a apple

I think I have a perception problem because this is the second time I've seen someone's photo and thought the subject looked miniaturized. Are these apples fully developed or are they somewhat on the smaller size? When I first glanced at the pics I thought they were berries.

The apples are still small about 2" diameter they will grow to about 3 1/2" when fully ripe in about 3 - 4 weeks.
I was surprised myself to see some already going red.
