Recording HD Video

So I was recently away and someone on my trip was using a brand-new Canon 5D-Mk3 and we were comparing the video-recording capabilities.

I was under th impression that the D7100 could record in 1080p @60fps...but for some reason I could not select this option in the video settings menu, and was only able to use 1080p @ 30fps.

Is it because of the lense I was using at the time (18-140 f3.5-5.6)?

It is not the lens. D7100 does 1080 at 60i, 50i, or 30 p. It does 720 at 60p.

Note at bottom of D7100 manual page 169, says it does NOT do 1080 60i or 50i if at DX frame mode.

Yes... Even if you watch Nikon's own videos about "Getting Started with Videos", they recommend that setting as a basic starting point for general video shooting... and when you start getting involved in video post processing, using multiple clips from different sources... you'll find that one of the first things that post process software does is synchronize the frame rates to a single source... keeping everything the same frame rate makes that a lot easier...

It's nice to have a lot of choices... but sometimes, using too many of those choices isn't the best thing... :)
