Visited Kent State today. I am an alumnus of KSU and studied there from 1968 to 1975. I really loved that town. The 44th anniversary of the National Guard shootings occurs on May 4th. The photos depict the area where the shooting and dying occurred. The locations of the four deaths are memorialized with the black posts and borders. This particular location is where Jeffery Miller was killed. It's a time and experience I'll never forget.

I doubt that there are very many on campus, including professors, who were even alive when the shootings occurred (Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young "Four Dead in Ohio"). So, beyond the annual memorial services, Kent State is a beautiful and fun place to be. A lot of things have changed over the years.... a Burger King now stands on the location of my fraternity house (The I admit to nothing years). I still have great memories.

Ted, great shots and a beautiful University... also a memorial of a terrible event.... that was 10 months before I entered the US Army.

Do you remember the song "1969 - The best year of my life." ? Well, it was. And I spent it here. And I never even played a guitar.

"Summer Of '69" by Bryan Adams

I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played it 'til my fingers bled
It was the summer of '69

Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard.
Jimmy quit, Jody got married
I should've known we'd never get far

Oh, when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Yeah, I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life

Ain't no use in complainin'
When you've got a job to do
Spent my evening's down at the drive-in
And that's when I met you, yeah

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever
Oh, and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Oh, yeah.
Back in the summer of '69, oh.

Man we were killin' time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin' can last forever, forever, no!

And now the times are changin'
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when I play that old six-string
I think about you, wonder what went wrong

Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that it'd last forever
Oh, and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Oh, yeah.
Back in the summer of '69, oh.
It was the summer of '69, oh, yeah.
Me and my baby in '69, oh.
It was the summer, the summer, the summer of '69, yeah.
