How to use mirror up + remote control?

Yes. Shooting Menu > Remote control mode > Remote mirror-up > OK. Then set the mode dial to remote.

The procedure is in the manual.

As Sparky said, it's a setting under the remote control menu. First click of the remote then raises the mirror, and the second shoots. It's pretty much the constant when I'm using a remote.

I'm a photo noOb, but... what does raising the mirror do?

When tripod mounting a camera for long exposure, you use Mirror Up to first move the mirror up, then allow the camera to stop moving before you open the shutter. It takes the raising of the mirror out of the equation and prevents the 'mirror slap' from causing vibration and possibly moving the camera when the shutter is open.. which would cause motion blur.

Thank you both for that info... I will definitely be storing that info for my next night light shoot.

Another trick to add to your bag: Hang a weight to your tripod to dampen any vibration quicker:

Obviously, if it's very windy this may actually work against you.
