I used the old 80-400 on my D80 and it worked fine. You do have to be patient with the focussing though. PS the sharpest this lense is at is f/7.1 this is what I used for 99% shots in Africa.

Thanks for the feedback Scott, was looking to upgrade. Can't decide which is better to upgrade my body and continue using my older version of the 80-400VR or upgrade to the newer 80-400VR and continue using my D50.

I had the D90 current new pirce in Ontario $569.99 body and the D7000 $849.99 body, or keep the D50 and buy the 80-400VR updated lense.

I have heard great things about the new 80-400VR so its a hard decision.
