Hi, I have a D7100 on its way to me. (I already own a Sony A99 which I use for Portraiture, etc.) I want to use the D7100 on wildlife and action.
I have used the Sigma 50-500mm on the Sony and it is quite good but I would like to get one for the D7100 -the long range Nikons are too expensive.
I think I saw some compatibility problems with Sigma lenses in an article which I cannot find. The question is: Will the Sigma function properly on the D7100?

There are some known compatibility issues with older Sigma lenses on the Nikon D5300... not sure if there were any with the D7100.

Thank you for the welcome.
Have just found link in DXO showing them testing the Sigma on a D7100, so it must be OK.

Welcome! I use a Sigma 150-500mm OS with my D7100 with no issues. What kind of compatibility problems are you reading about?

I believe it was AF issues, but I see now that there is no problem. I have a Nikkor AF-s 300mm f4 and a 1.4x converter which I will try out first to see how much range and sharpness I can get and if necessary, invest in a Sigma ??150 or 50-500mm.
Thank you.

I think the 300mm f4 will serve you well. As for the 50 vs 150, I think it's a toss up. I've read that the 50 is sharper around the mid range of 200-300, while the 150 is a tad sharper at the long end. But I've done no comparisons so I'm just going off of what I've read.

I can't remember but I believe I went with the 150 over the 50 due to price and because I didn't feel I needed that full range of 50-500. Good luck!
