I had about an hour this morning to kill so I decided to do an impromptu high ISO test comparing the d600 and d7100. I wanted to make constant as many variables as possible. I shot from one room into my kitchen with the same lens, focal point, aperture, metering and focal length. I shot from a tripod using a shutter release.
I've only looked at the end results briefly but from what I can tell the results are much closer than I originally thought. In a previous post I was comparing some shots (taken at different times) and I was astonished at the difference between the D600 and D7100. But these pics have changed my mind. I think this test has gotten me more in line with what most have been saying that higher ISOs the D600 will be better but not worlds apart.
As shot I can only tell a slight difference on either camera between ISO6400 and ISO100. So that goes without saying as shot (not pixel peeping at 100%) I really don't see much difference between the D600 and D7100 at 6400 or 100.

I'm actually pleased at how both performed. If you pixel peep you can see the difference at the higher ISOs but for me the difference isn't that great.
I plan to do another test with a 16-35 f4 lens (this one was done with a sigma 150-500 at 380mm). I'm actually more curious to see how they perform at the mid-range ISOs now.
Overall I'm impressed with what I see from both.
