Nikon 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5 IF ED

Nice video.
I'm looking for a less expensive (I'd say cheap, but can't get low enough to qualify as cheap), wide angle lens for my D610.
Looking at a used one of these 18-35 (not the new G version - too many pennies to be saved before getting one of those).
I've had a few others under consideration.
Sigma's 15-30 is on the list, missed one recently on eBay (gotta get this last second bidding down better).
And there is a Tamron in the same range.
OR - is a Nikon 20mm prime the way to go, can be had for about the same as the 18-35mm. Again the AF-D version not the most recent rendition.
I'm looking to spend less than $300 (CDN)
Watching a few on eBay but who knows?
