That can be turned off in your settings.

You subscribe to a thread automatically once you reply to it.
You can turn that off in settings as Don said or if you don't want notifications for certain threads, you have a deselect option while replying as well

been there and done that also

Go to General Settings http://nikonites.com/profile.php?do=editoptions
Scroll down to where it says "Default Thread Subscription Mode:" Drop down to "Do Not Subscribe"

You may still get emails for the ones you are already subscribed to that you will have to unsubscribe to but any new thread you will not get the emails.
