D7000 and speedlights

Would like to know if it's safe to use a generic speedlight with my D7000. It worked ok with my D3100, but I need to know if it's ok to use on the D7000. Thank you.

If it worked on your D3100 you should be perfectly safe... What's the make/model of the unit in question?

Its a Yongnuo YN560 speedlight. It was a gift.

As long as it's a Nikon compatiable one you're fine, and the YN560 is

Thank you Sam I'm quite pleased to hear it because it is a very nice speedlight. Though, in truth, I'm still trying to figure out exactly how speedlights work, lol
