When the pic is an attachment of the individual post then it is treated differently than a picture inserted from another URL (like the gallery or flickr)
Ideally there's no reason to keep repeating the image over and over again if a reply is quoted. I don't think there's an easy way to exclude picture from reply with quote though.

i like the picture being there, maybe as a thumbnail. I sometimes get a reply days after the post and then have to lookup the attachment. Gotta keep admin on his toes.
I know what you mean. Btw when you quote a respinse there is a little icon next to the quote that when clicked will bring you to the quoted post.
