I believe so. Even B&H has a listing of Nikon lens rebates but all require the additional purchase of a body.

I hope so, I JUST ordered a Nikon refurb 85mm this week from Adorama for just under $400.

When I saw this "AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G $100" in this thread I about fell out of my chair LOL

carguy, I just looked through my order history at B&H. On February 17, 2013, Nikon started advertising their lenses separately for sale. Since I jumped on it, I was able to get a Nikon 85mm f/1.8 that was still in stock. Within a short time, B&H was sold out of them (and they were out of stock for months with lots of back-orders to fill). I paid $396.95 for the lens new with USA warranty. I have no clue whether or not Nikon will run something similar again next year though.

Thanks. I'm content with my deal this week. Just thought I pulled the trigger a few days too early is all :) Can't wait to play with this new glass.

Really annoying that you have to buy a body to get a deal. No wonder their stock is in the toilet. They are very good at alienating their customer base.

Just updated the first post.
@carguy - I've only seen Nikon offer individual lens rebates once, otherwise they've always been with body purchases. Also, the prices posted are the amount off.

It's my understanding that Nikon's profits are lower because of the D600's problems. If they do run a separate lens sale again, I wouldn't be surprised if the savings are a lot less. In any case, the 85mm f/1.8 is a terrific lens. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy! ;)

Back @ November-December 2011, someone either on Amazon's Gold Box Forum or in a review said to keep watch of Nikon lenses through Amazon around Christmas because they sometimes run really good deals. I did and was able to get a 55-200mm f/4-5.6 for $149 new (I bought it for my D90 at the time). I'm not sure whether that was an exclusive offer through Amazon, but I'm pretty sure same lens was higher elsewhere. This lens and the 85mm lens were the only two times I remember seeing Nikon lenses discounted without requiring a camera purchase.

Hmm...maybe I will set up a watch on camelcamelcamel.com for Nikon's 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G lens via Amazon and see if it shows up for a discounted price before Christmas. With Amazon, you just never know because some things drop in price for just a few hours even though they aren't part of a Lightning Deal....;)
