Don Kuykendall_RIP
RIP :(
Rented lens for the week to carry to Circle B Reserve. Here are some that I did this afternoon just to see what it would do.
How does it feel" Will you have any troble handholding it all day? Don Kuykendall
I guess it will soon be on your wish list Don.
To be honest, I've been satisfied about the Big Tam on my D750 (in regards to IQ). It's only when I got the D810 and D7200 I started to get disappointed by the lens.
I'm wondering if the AA-filter on the D750 positively influenced the results where the lack of this filter negatively affected it on my other cams.
Could be the D750 is less demanding it only has 24mp on a FX sensor,i know the Sigma 150-600C was great on the 750 but not so good on the 7200
I've been shooting the Tam about 90% of the time this trip (on my D7200) and even when I said I was never disappointed by the IQ on my D750, I will never advise the lens to anyone else.
The freeze issue alone is making the lens undesirable. Trust me, missing yet another shot because the lens refuses to focus becomes pretty annoying. Even when it's "just" a hobby.
Must be getting close to 4500 shots now on the new one and no sign of focus freeze perhaps they have quietly fixed it although i said i wouldn't buy one i am giving thought to the D500 to go with the Tamron, will wait for actual ISO and focus results. Also giving just a little thought to the 200-500 to go with the D7200 but i am just concerned about the extra weight, wouldn't mind if the lens was a lot shorter as its the weight at extension i struggle with.
I didn't have much of an issue when I first got the Tam but it seems to get worse while the lens ages. I've been in Portugal so light wasn't an issue and neither was temperature and yet each day I had at least one serious freeze.
Better be safe than sorry and get a Sigma or Nikon if you're shopping for a long lens.
My first one started within 1000 shots and as they knew about it its possible they have a fix, lets be honest they are not going to shout we can now fix your lens may be worth sending yours in.
Did you get the firmware update on the Tammy? After getting mine back it froze once the first time i used it and hasn't done it again. Not to say it won't as i haven't used it as much as prior but normally it would have by now.I didn't have much of an issue when I first got the Tam but it seems to get worse while the lens ages. I'll check with my store when it opens and have them ask if there even is a new firmware version for us. As far as I know, Tamron communicates openly about the Canon firmware updates but there's no word about Nikon.
I'll have them look into it.
