Interesting design. In Tokyo, there are several signs that tells everyone that no photography is allowed with regards to the U.S. Embassy and the Japanese Govt provides more roving police patrols within the blocks.

wow! talk about taking civil liberties away. I can assure you that this building has been photographed from every angle possible, as has been every embassy in Ottawa.

I think it varies from countries. In Singapore, they also have much less security concerns. I'm sure it is much tighter in the middle east or places where there are higher probable terrorist attacks. I don't think the threat for terrorist is that high which explains the less visible security folks.

Based on my last visit to the US embassy in Manila ( 2yrs ago), we could take pictures outside the gates. If you are going in, you are reminded no picture-taking while inside.

Remind is an understatement. You turn-in your cell phone, PDA, smart phone and just about all of your electronic devices.

You are correct. Knowing the drill, prior to our entry, we left our devices with our relatives outside. Even then, we were still reminded about it aside from other "do's & don'ts" while inside.
