Keep in mind what we are talking about are rumors, however with the recent price drop in the D7000 and with the rumors of Canon getting to release some new cameras too this all kind of makes sense. Nikon and Canon release new line cameras about the same time, and the Canon rumor mill is buzzing also about a new release around the same time frame in late February early March.

Nikon D7200, D9000 and D4x Rumors
I read somewhere (and for the life of me I can't find the link to post) speculation is the next and only DX possible camera to come out is going to be a cross between the D7000 and the D300.
I been seeing more rumors that use the tag D7200 than I've seen D400. By a history pattern the D7000 is "due" for an upgrade and the D300 is "way over due"
With the release of the D600 some people speculated this was the upgrade for the D300 although in full frame. Price wise it put it in line with a D300 upgrade.
There are a lot of us holding out for that D300 upgrade but as more time passes it seems that any upgrade to that is still down the road or is going to be merged into the next DX camera to come out possibly the D7200 like I said before.
I think at this point for me anything that comes out in the DX line that is an upgrade to the D7000 I'm going to jump on. I'm tried of holding out for a D300 upgrade and I have too much invested in DX glass to jump to full frame.
For me it's not so much the camera I'm looking for, I really want to upgrade my sensor but keep in the higher end of the DX body line.
At the time I bought my D90 I had the choice to buy the D7000 and I didn't. At the time price and camera knowledge pointed me to the D90. Now down the road I wish I bought the D7000.
Once again I'm at this crossroad but this time knowledge and budget is not an issue.
