I've been using a 300mm f2.8 ED IF ai-s lens on a Panasonic GH4 for over a year, and just love the lens. I shoot as much video as I do photos with it, and with the proprietary threading and 39mm drop-in filter, finding ND filters has proven to be impossible. I'm thinking about getting an AF-S 300mm f2.8 D, either the I or II, and was wondering if the thin, non-Nikon filters will fit in the drop-in filter holder. Also, can you give me an idea how smooth the manual focusing is, and how easy it is to turn the focusing wheel? I can turn the 300mm 2.8 ai-s focus ring with my pinkie, and it makes hours of shooting manual focused video a lot less tiring than with a lens that has stiffer focusing.
