I don't understand some of the terminology (like Q) . I know the lens is manual focus but will it work on my 33oo? Paul

I believe the Q version have less glass elements in the lens than an AI version.

That lens can potentially damage your camera if the mount hasn't been modified.

Well I watched utube angry photographer and he said if I don't get one, I'm an asshole. I have the Nikkor 35mm F/2,8 as a portrait lens and I really like it. Guess I will stick with it!! Instead of more lenses, I need more practice. Paul THANKS GUYS

Old non-AI lenses are considered bad news on modern DSLR camera bodies. One story is that damage can be done to the camera electrical contacts. Many of the old lenses can be modified to be AI, but even then, the result is still 40 years old technology, manual focus, and you also have to set them manually for the exposure.
Here is Nikon's assessment (note this one is a Nikkor Q lens):

- Nikon F2 Photomic (c. 1972) with the following ancient non-AI lenses, which I frequently use on my D3200 in defiance of Nikon's claim that I cannot:

- 12mm/20mm/36mm macro extension ring set.

Nikon claims that only the DF model can use the old non-AI lenses. My D3200, my three old non-AI lenses, and I disagree.
As far as I know, the only potential damage issue is with bodies that have a mechanical AI linkage. Non-AI lenses can damage that linkage.
The D3x00 and D5x00 models do not have this linage, and are therefore not at risk of being damaged by a non-AI lens.- Nikon D3200, with stock 18-55mm kit lens (c. 2012-2013)
