What did I do wrong in this focus stacking?

I have little white lines in this photo and I understand they are the different areas that were selected for best focus, but how do I get rid of them? Untitled_Panorama1.jpg

It looks like the center section that is in focus is all one shot and all the others are all out of focus. If this is the case then there is no need to use focus stacking. If you wanted to use focus stacking then you would have shot frames of the background that were in focus.

Also what software are you using for post processing?

From the looks of the shot then you could have done that with one shot. Photoshop could not find anything in focus on the background shots so that is probably what caused the problem. Focus stacking is not the answer for what you are trying to do.

Then whats the answer Don, I can look up the instructions if you can point me in the right direction. Or is it a different lens?

To get the results you wanted just use the center photo and that should give you what you want. To get a shallow Depth of Field which is what you are after just use a large aperture like 1.8 or 2.8 whatever the largest aperture you have on your lens (Smallest number) It also helps to be a close as you can be to the subject while still getting the shot you want.

Focus stacking is only for getting everything in the entire shot in focus.

Would you have to to get a JPEG that can be posted?
Possibly but it looks like it is still seeing the cropped layers which makes me feel that it had not been flattened. Either that or this is a screen shot of the PS page and has yet to be flattened and exported.

I would just make a duplicate layer of the original picture. Then with that layer use the blur filter to blur out the entire picture. Then make a mask layer on there and "paint" away the part of the flower that you want to be in focus.

The image is a jpeg, shot with a 35mm 1.8, I was very clost. I see the "prickly" part of the flower is IN and OUT of focus in parts. Scott - it wasn't flattened, you were right. I flattened it but only a couple of the lines went away, the others ones stayed. I'm going to try this with a different aperture.
