Creative Suggestions for Album Cover Art?

So I picked up a gig doing a portrait shoot with a singer/songwriter who is releasing a music CD. He wants a cover-shot and some "casual" portraits. The client is partial to the cinematic look (yea!) as well as B&W. Shooting location is Balboa Park so there's no shortage of amaaaazing architectural and landscape elements to work with; almost too many, actually. A bicycle, which I haven't seen yet, will be a key "prop" in the shoot; I'm hoping against hope it's a beach-cruiser! Anyway, I'll be shooting later in the afternoon with the strong possibility of getting into doing some actual night-photography. The client is easy-going and wide-open to creative direction. I will have one assistant.

I'd like to break out of the usual (boring!) men's sitting/standing portrait poses and am looking for any kind of creative suggestions... Poses, lighting, post-processing techniques whatever you've got. I have a couple weeks to get my Kreative Juicez® flowing.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

Your question got me thinking about posing men and tips on the subject. I googled the topic and watched this video which I thought was well worth my time. Go to Youtube and enter, Photographing Men with Jeff Rojas

this may be helpful for your shoot. I found it very interesting and I learned a lot of things to think about when shooting.

Remember, before you post a picture, "You are known by what you show, not by what you throw".

I decided many years ago I was going to have either
a really good day or sometimes slip to just a good day. I refuse to have bad ones!!!

Throwing stuff at the wall is fine! Pretty much all I'm asking for. And while I like several of those shots, THAT one really wow's me... That low, from-behind angle, the overall composition; I love it. Even without some of the elements that shot (illustration?) rocks my world. I'll need to find out if my client plays guitar or not but either way I may wedge in a guitar/guitar case as a visual element.

    Thanks, Chris!

You are very welcome. I wasn't sure if your client played guitar either LOL. But I thought I would google some images anyway. I suppose, in addition to whether he plays guitar or not, it would be interesting to know what music he is in to, and really what type of person he is (more serious, or humorous, daring, etc.). Hell, I shouldn't even assume your client is even a "he". Black and white, cinematic is intriguing. I think we all would like to see the end result, if possible.
