My first photoshoot in more than a year and a half

Liz is brand new to modeling but very photogenic. Her complexion is nearly flawless. She takes direction extremely well and the lens loves her, as you can see from the photos. Her husband Jesse came along too and I promptly put him to work holding the flash and taking meter readings!

Every one of them was shot with my "go to" portrait lens, the 180mm f/2.8 ED AIS Nikkor, except the 4th one, which was shot with the 105mm f/1.8 AIS Nikkor, but only because we were on a small deck and I did not have enough room to use the 180mm. It is needle sharp, with a good, but not great, bokeh and at f/4 the depth of field is nil so it does a really great job of separating model from background.

This one is the "money shot" for the whole shoot:

Very nice shots.

Dont understand why the EXIF in every shot shows a focal length of 18mm when you said you were using 180 and 105mm lenses?

Like these shots a lot but I would have her use a little less eye makeup in future shoots. I think her eyes would show up better that way, Soft pastel tops would also show off her beautiful complexion a little better i think. Looking forward to more shots of this young lady. She has great presence which you have portrayed very well indeed.

Because all of my lenses are AI or AIS and that means I have to put the focal length in manually and to be honest, I just can't be bothered. Of course your mileage may vary, but the EXIF data really holds very little value for me.

Agree with Ron, nice looking model and photos but the eyes are much darker than I'd personally like to see.

I hear what you are saying. Her eyes are a super deep dark brown, some of the darkest I have ever seen and they really do not photograph well.

I suspected she might be one of those people that has eyes that just seem to be absorb light rather than reflect.

And with eyes that deep there is really little you can do with Photoshop because there is really nothing there to work with

Her eyes are very deep but if you zoom in on her eyes you will see that her mascara and the outliner pencil that she uses is even darker and a lighter shade would actually show her eyes of better. Notice her eyebrows, how much lighter they are than her lashes. Sometimes the cosmetic industry steers ladies the wrong way. I do hope she will do more modeling for you because she seems a natural and has a lovely smile and you have portrayed her very well. Nice job.

Great series especially the composition.
I really like the lens character of the 180mm f2.8. It is aclassic portrait lens and the lens makes the difference regardless of whatcamera you use. Thanks for sharing.
