Do Images Need to be Square?

I'm no expert on forum requirements, but I do routinely post photos here. I always just size them to 1000 on the longer side and let the software choose the short side based on the original aspect ratio of the image.

This one is 1000 x 668

The long side should be 1024 - the other side can be shorter. In the past, I've uploaded 1200 on the long side. The forum downsized them automatically, but eventually I switched to 1024 on the long side anyway.

Thank you! I am hoping to get a few images posted soon. As my profile suggests, I carry the gear for my wife. I research, find places to go and support my wife's passion for photography. I need to wait on her to get images to me in the correct format. She is not very quick to respond to my request, but I think she will comply today for me. Fingers crossed!

I see your question has been answered. I put this in all my welcomes to new members.

Guidelines to adding a photo to your post.

1. Resize photo to 1000px on the long side.
2. Resolution set to 72ppi (Pixels Per Inch)

These guidelines will be good for viewing on a computer but will not be good for printing. This will help safeguard your copyright.
