    Damaged Filter Ring help please

Can anybody help please ? The filter ring on my Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 appears that the lugs have broken. Therefore you cannot secure the lens hood. In the leaflet for the lens it is number 5, can I obtain a replacement filter ring from somewhere .
on Amazon they refer to a “step up” filter ring is that the same thing .
I am based in the UK. Thanks

A step up ring screws onto the filter threads at the very front of the lens. It is designed to hold a filter that is larger than the filter size of your existing lens. So no, if you are looking to replace your hood, a step up ring won't work.

In all honesty, I'm having a little trouble understanding exactly what your problem is. Can you upload a pic?

I am struggling a bit with understanding your issue too. I think @hark makes a good point regarding the need for a photo. If you could show us exactly what is broken in the photo we might have a better chance recommending a fix.

Hopefully I have attached a photo of the problem.

this is the ring which sits behind the hood. Some of the lugs are damaged so the hood will not screw into place.

I think you will really need to talk to Tamron about the ring. It appears the damage is to a lens component.

I found this PDF for a Tamron 24-70mm lens (not sure if it is the same model lens as the one you have). According to this, you might be looking for a hood attaching bayonet ring which is #5 on their list. The filter ring is #4. Or is that also damaged?

No, sorry. Usually if something is breakable, you can find it on ebay, but I don't see anything. I don't know if Tamron will sell parts to consumers. If not, maybe a camera repair shop can get you one.
