Corrupt Nef files. Any advice what can be done?

I'm asking this for a photographer from a group who's panicking ATM: She shot a wedding. When she got home and went to import them to Lightroom it is saying all but about 100 of the 1500 images are corrupt.

She's tried SD card recovery software and copied the files again to the computer with the same results. She tried connecting the camera via USB lead directly to the computer too instead of taking out the memory card.

There doesn't even seem to be viewable/extractable jpeg previews from the raw files either.

My guess is some people who are shooting events where they will take a huge amount of photos set the 2nd slot to overflow. That way they don't need to keep track of how quickly the 1st card fills up. Sadly, it's not a good choice.
