D610 can you set a specific focal point like on the D700?

I have been using a D700 for some time and nearly always set the focal exactly where I want it because I shoot mainly motorsports. I have bought a D610 and cant find where I go to pre-set the focal to a specific spot. I am not sure that it can be done.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK os what are you wanting to set? Are you wanting to set a focus point on a corner so that when a racecar comes by it is in focus? or are you trying to select different focus points in camera?

I find it a bit difficult to understand your question. Are you thinking of focusing at a certain spot and then putting the focus in manual mode and then waiting for the cars to be at the right spot? Or is it that you can't find the way to use only one focus point? To change from multi-focus points with the D600-610, there is a button you have to press while you turn the main control dial that will change the number of focus points and the way the focus works. The button is inserted where the focus mode switch is. Your owner's manual would probably give better detailed infos then I can.

The way i understood the question was, like you can lock the center point as a focus point can you lock one higher or lower to the left or right.

What I am trying to do is set one specific focal point for example, right in the centre of the frame, for every shot.

Does your camera have a lock lever on the rear mode dial,if so you may need to move it off lock to move the focus point and then back to lock, just a guess as i don't do it.

If it works the same as mine, you should be able to change the focus point with the multi-selector regardless which AF mode you use. Evidently within the limits of the focus area and after activating AF. Then you can lock it with the switch.

I think you might have multi-points selected. While pressing on the focus button (below the lens mount) turn the sub-command wheel until you get only one point showing in the top LCD.

IF YOU PRESS THE AF MODE BUTTON AND LOOK THRU THE VIEWFINDER YOU SHOULD SEE AFA AFC AFS NEXT TO THAT YOU SHOULD SEE -S-d9-d21-d39-3d-auto when you rotate the front and back command dials. suggest setting to afc and s (s single will look like the #5) afc pg. 97 s pg. 100

Here are 2 pictures I took on my 7000 which uses the same buttons than the 610 for focus menu. The pictures are of the top LCD display.

Here's the one where only one focusing point is selected:

If this is what your LCD shows and you can't move the selection point, then maybe your camera needs service.

And now this is how it looks if you have selected multi points.

I hope this helps.
