My Photo Is On The Village Voice - SURPRISE!!

I'm a big fan of craft beer, and in particular of Carton Brewing, a NJ brewery. I use an app called Untappd that tracks the various beers I've had, and when I checked in for the latest Carton release (a wonderful Black Ale call "Epitome") I posted a rather hurried shot of the can with the beer poured in a glass. The photo appeared on Untappd, and also on my personal Facebook page where I tagged the owner of the brewery. This was Monday.

Today I'm going through my FB news feed and I see a link to a blog post from the Village Voice, a long standing paper from New York, and I recognize the photo used as the very same hurriedly taken shot I posted with my check in. It was attributed Courtesy of Carton, so I contacted my friend who said he had no idea it was coming and he hadn't sent them anything, in fact he said that they work really hard on getting great shots of all their products, which was his backhanded way of telling me, "Had they asked we certainly would have given him a better photo". LOL

So, I contact the author of the post telling him he used it without permission and that while I'm not happy about that I am also not unreasonable, so he either needs to give proper attribution or take it down. Within 10 minutes I get a call from him apologizing profusely and telling me that he had seen it on the owner's Facebook wall and never thought to look to see if it was posted by someone else (i.e. "I saw it and grabbed it") and that he would make sure it was changed immediately (and so it has been). Now I just wish I'd used something besides the on-camera flash from my Sony a6000.

So now you KNOW you've GOT to show us that picture on this forum don't you? :)

Like a Nikon perhaps? :surprise: Cool shot none-the-less. The beer reminds me of root beer--wishing for a root beer float about now. Cheers, Jake! :very_drunk:

I don't know if congratulations are in order. My point in posting is to just let folks know that anything you post online is susceptible to "use", so keep your eyes open. I doubt this will get me any recognition, but heck, I can stick it on me resume, right?! LOL

Well you know that your photo is good enough to be used ...
why not phone that owner again and sell yourself to him - shoot the entire range and get paid for it?

Oh and that has made me feel like a beer at 1.00 pm although I am not a fan of dark beer.

He's got a guy for that, and a rather good one at that. Besides, I'm a good hour-plus away from the brewery anyway and his shooting schedule would likely butt heads with my real job schedule, flexible as that is.
