Yellow Bird

I've noticed this yellow bird (not sure what it's name really is) over the past few weeks at our bird bath but could never get the camera out fast enough. This morning I built a cardboard blind to fit in a window about 20 feet away and finally got a few shots. I had only seen the one bright yellow one in the past, was surprised to see the two of them land. In addition to feedback, do you feel the second bird in the back detracts from the shot?

The first one is your Finch.

The second one is your Finch on drugs.

Any questions?

Birds are a lot like people. If YOU want to look really good, stand next to an ugly person!

That is a yellow Finch, by the way.

Good shot!

Yup, that's an American Goldfinch...male and female (darker one) from the looks of it. Very common here in Ohio. Put out some sunflower seed and they'll flock to your back yard by the dozens!

Ideally, you want to show the complete bodies of both birds. At first glance, they look stacked on top of one another, but when dealing with skittish birds, you don't always have time to get a better angle. That said, what detracts the shot for me is the post-processing. It's way too dark and contrasty.

Thanks for the links Rick!

I'll be waiting for an opportunity to shoot this again, I think if the other bird was not directly behind the first, it would have been a better capture.

I find myself going heavy on the Post-processing when I want to print. The images look more alive on my monitor and seem to loose some punch when printed.

Thanks for the feedback!!

My humble suggestion. Maybe you should zoom in more on the birds instead of trying to include the whole water basin. The flower on the top right corner is a bit distracting.

If the birds were to drink, the action will be better than both in the same position. Just my suggestion.
