I photographed a wedding recently and it rained all day long - but the bride and groom were good sport and we managed to get some nice photos for them

Yes I know the flash it to bright but by now (after walk in garden) the bride and groom were ready to get inside

I've only been here a couple days and have noticed that most prefer to just "like" a photo or not.
At the risk of sticking my neck out, with limited experience, I'd just like to say that I love the idea and composition. The overexposed umbrella is such an attention getter that for me hurts the image, a lot.

Why can this not be fixed or improved in post?

I wouldn't have commented had I not liked the photo so much!

Thank you both ......

The flash was held by my wife behind them bride and groom pointing into the umbrella

The umbrella is to bright - totally agree and its not actually blown out but if I try to compensate it with adjustment brush etc in RAW it goes a grey colour and looks bad

I actually kind of like it the more I look at it. It gives the appearance that the umbrella is actually a lamp shining down on the bride and groom.

I think comments are preferred in most cases, its just with me i try to view most images on here (which i often fail at) so commenting on all of them i like would be too time consuming.

Thank you........

Yes that is exactly what I was going for, its a cream umbrella so I thought it would reflect the flash well down onto them and also highlight the rain

I think it looks great yes the umbrella is over exposed but I think it works in this one.
I would actually like to see the colour version.

I have seen quite a few people in the OCF Facebook group use the reflector studio umbrellas for a similar effect, and have the flash on low power inside the umbrella, which could also be worth a try :)

I really like the photo. IMO, if that's the way you wanted the photo to turn out then there's no need to apologize for it. Superb image. :)

Thank you everyone for the feedback - it means a lot.

The bride & groom loved it to, I suppose with it being so wet and dark and dreary day I wanted something dramatic

I love it! I, too, thought the flash was up in the umbrella, until you explained it and I saw the light on the lower part of their faces.

They were lucky to have you for a photographer!

edit: And the umbrella is VERY cool!
