Hi all

I hope this is the right place to post this.

Im trying to get a photo right and cant seem to get it to work, Heres the photo i have so far.

I hope you can see what im trying to do. I have tried water on top of the glass and also on the bottom of the glass i have tried a lot of water and a little water.

Im open to any ideas to see if i can get this right.

Just a bit of background on what im doing and how im doing it.

i had some sprinkles that you put on cakes in a bowl. with some glass on top ( about 8 - 10 inches above) the glass had water drops on ( i couldnt get good drops they were more like splodges) then the camera was above that wherever i could get the focus through the bubbles.

If you need any other information please just ask.

Thanks for anyone who helps

Thanks for describing what it was since I thought it was sort of a wasp nest. Lol!

If glass is involved and you want to shoot through it, a cp filter might help and increase the aperture a bit.

Okay, think I am getting it.

I would say manual focus too. And your camera on a tripod, pointing down at it.

LESS of everything, at least until you get it right.

For the water drops, maybe try to place them carefully with a fingertip?

I've never done this, but when you say the drops were not good, I thought of Rain-x. I don't know if you have it over there, its sort of a wax for car windows. It makes water bead up and roll away. If you don't have that, car wax on the glass might have the same effect. A spray mister might help too if you want very tiny drops.

Here's a shot I did a while back of a 4 pack a Crayons. Nikon D600 with Tokina 100mm macro. ISO 100, f/14, 1/160 sec. Off camera flash - 2 SB-800s; one on each side of glass on manual. Had I not been goofing around, I would have taken more time to eliminate the flash reflection in the water drops. Glass was about 10" above crayons. Sensor was on same plane as the glass. Ditto on RainX and spraying on water. Wait a bit for water to bead up. Good luck.

Add glycerin (available at drugstores and some other stores) to your water at a ratio of 1 part glycerine to 2-4 parts water, along with the Rain-x on the glass. Apply the glycerine to the surface with a sprayer/mister (a dropper may work.) The effect will change with temperatures and the mix of glycerine and water, but it should enhance the effect of the water droplets. It may take some tries to get the effect you want.
