To crop or not to crop

I have taken this picture of a little girl playing at a feast but there are a not of people in the background. I wanted to crop the image to get closer to the girl, but cropping in to the girl means decapitating the silhouettes in the background. I'm not quite sure what to do with it

I would just crop a bit of right side, and a tiny bit of the bottom. At least you got your people in the back, blurred out.

Yes my focus was the child but the place was crowded with people... everyone was walking in and out of shots. Love the girl's expression but can't close in enough without the damaging other areas of the picture. Might shelf it

Maybe a bit of the top too, as Marcel shows.

Sometimes there are just to many people in crowded places, lol.

You could trim it a little but, in my opinion, no amount of cropping is not going to save that shot.

.....

I'm with Horoscope Fish on this one. Cropping alone won't do much, but as the others have mentioned, adding some blur to the background will give the impression of a greater DOF. Please excuse my outlining ability--I'm definitely not good when it comes to outlining something with low contrast. I certainly could have done a better job outlining especially near the bottom of the photo as well as with what she is holding, but hopefully you will get the idea.

And sometimes you have to think outside of the box--literally!!! ;) This is the first time I ever attempted this effect. Again, whatever the girl is holding posed a problem so I didn't include it here. For this effect, I used PSE 10 and started with the blurred background image above. Then I switched to Guided Edit and added the Out of Bounds photo effect. You should be able to make this into a useable image utilizing some type of effect--if not this one, then something else. :)

That is wonderful. The out of the box effect makes this a great shot.
