I grew up in a coal mining town. Recently I was back home visiting my family. I took this long exposure of one of the many power plants in the area.

This was taken with my first Nikon camera as I am normally a Canon user.

  • Camera: Nikon D800
  • Focal Length: 50.0 mm
  • Shutter Speed: 3.0 sec
  • Aperture: F5.6
  • ISO/Film: 160

I used to shoot industrial photography semi-professionally so seeing that sure reminds me of some of the work sites I went to. That is a GREAT photo. It almost looks like an HDR image. The colors are terrific.

Thank you for the feedback!

Something i'm noticing right away with this D800 is the dynamic range capabilities. I'm finding I have the ability to pull so much detail out of the shadows. It's giving me tons of creative freedom.

Fantastic shot, agreed with Crycocyon it's got a HDR look.
Surprised at the star effect on the lights from an F5.6 usually need a smaller aperture for that effect.

Have you done any post processing?
Not that it matters, just wondering, it's a great shot either way.

Yes, I used LR 4 to process this shot. I pulled lots of detail out of the shadows and also changed the white balance as the original shot was a tad orange.
