I have been recommended to get a remote shutter release for my D3100, can anybody recommend one (UK availability only) and if possible a wireless one would be great, my budget is £50 or is that not enough
I would not bother with a wireless remote - they usually use IR - which can be iffy in tricky light situations. Go for a good old fashioned cable release - should not cost you more than £20.00. Spend the rest of your money on a tripod.
Since you are in the UK , I would go to my local camera shop and see what they have to offer - take your camera along with - and ask to test it out in the store. I bought a Calumet own brand one for about £8 - and have had it for ages now. The same one from Nikon was gonna be about £30 - but its up to you.

Hmmm.. Not really.. i have the Nikon ML-L3 (wireless remote) & it works quite well.
It is IR & i can take a pic from at least 25 ft in front & 10 ft (not tested more) from behind.
Small little thing, does it's work really well.
And it costs just £8 !!
Nice little item - I lost half a dozen by leaving them in my jeans pocket and they kept going through the wash ... Should be about £15 and easily available. I have had problems in bright sunlight getting it to work - but as I said before - every person has their own preferences.
No ... sorry - forgot that it wont work with the D3100 ... as far as I can remember- the D3100 will not support any wireless remotes - only wired ... however if you are still set on going wireless ... look into the pocket wizzard sets ... but very very pricey !!
The 603's are flash triggers not remotes, having said that they can be used as a remote (I also have some of them). They are transceivers so if you want to use them for more than just triggering the shutter then you can easily/cheaply add more units as required.
