Aaaargh, and I have just bought a new Nikon D500 body ::what:::frown-new:
Not to worry. Nikon will soon introduce the D5++ body (can't be a D600 who knows what Nikon will call it) which will solve your problem. :encouragement:
Don't hold you breath on Nikon providing a firmware update. All of us D7200 owner are still waiting for the firmware update to allow us to use the P lenses without the VR switch. It arrears Nikon has adopted a new business model to force users to upgrade their cameras rather then maintain compatibility.

I think you are referring to Sony which has the policy of orphaning products after very short product cycles by dropping product support and parts soon after a model is stopped being produced. I will never buy Sony due to that corporate policy.Don't hold you breath on Nikon providing a firmware update.
