YongNuo RF-603/N3 Wireless Flash Triggers

Hi all. I wasn't sure which section to post this in so I guess this is a good a place as any.

I’ve purchased a quartet of these transceivers. I own 2 SB-700 speed lights and intended on getting a couple more. I have a D7100. Both units are supposed to be compatible with these triggers. However, I cannot get these to work. They are synching fine because a half-press initiates the synch and I can see the second green light becomes active on both triggers. The SB-700is supposed to be in Manual, but just for completeness (and poor Chinese to English instruction translations) I’ve tried every single mode on the SB-700. I should not have to do anything on the camera body.

I really don’t think I’m missing anything but am curious if anyone else has had problems with them?

I have the 603n ll jus tried them all ok
not being a smart ass but one on camera via cable one on flash , flash set to manual
the switches on the 603 set to TRX all ok
when set on TX they don't Fire I think that has something to do with slave firing , not sure as it does what I need
If that helps great if not sorry

Interesting you mention the TRX/TX...the 603/N3 has no switch for this. I am in Manual on flash. My understanding is that the cable is only needed if you want to trigger the shutter remotely? Have tried with and without though.

Thank you. Yes, I did. They are all on channel 1.

I have a set of the RF-603/NII transceivers and they worked right out of the box with my D7100 and just one off-cam SB700. The power switches have 2 different slots on them though. TX is transmit only, whereas TRX is transmit/receive. Are the ones on your flash set to TRX?

NM, someone asked that earlier, so I jumped the gun before finishing the thread. ;)

With the MKIII there is not dip switch for RX/TX. In the battery compartment there are only dip switches labelled 1, 2, 3 and 4. I even tried holding down the trigger switch for 5 seconds but it made no difference.

Looking up the N3 product, it shows that each set comes with one transmitter and one receiver, so not set up as transceivers (send/receive) units. That would be why there is no tx/trx switch. Are you sure you have a dedicated transmitter on the camera? Also, they should have an activation button so you can test them while not on the camera, make sure it's working between units. Does it work when testing that way? If not, swap the units and test the other way around. Make sure you're dealing with just one set from one box, as if you have two transmitters, or two receivers, you're stuck.

I couldn't see on Yongnuo's website how they were labeled.

Nope. Each unit is a transceiver. You had me panicking there LOL. I have examined all 4 that I have (two boxes) and there physically no distinction between them. They do not look different and there is nothing labelled different.

This is what I got from a quick Google. Could be wrong, but the picture of one power switch with no tx/trx switch matches:

Yongnuo RF-603 N3 RF603 N3 Flash Wireless Trigger/Remote | Yongnuo Store

Package Including: ( No batteries included)

  • 1 x Transmitter
  • 1 x Receiver
  • 1 x 2.5mm port Shutter release cable
  • 1 x Manual in English and Chinese

If you can't get it to work even in test mode, you've reached the end of my troubleshooting knowledge. I know the NII set I have works like a champ!

Good luck!
